August 16 Press Release -- West Covina, CA: On August 16th at 3:00 pm at the Tennant's Recollections located at 2526 E Workman Ave, West Covina, the Lions Eye Foundation of Southern California Mobile Health Screening Unit corporation will introduce the newly created $200,000.00 "Eye Mobile" Unit. The new Mobile Unit will replace an older Mobile Unit first placed into service in 1986. The new Mobile Screening Unit will provide visual acuity, glaucoma, elevated blood pressure and hearing screening free of charge for the indigent, semi-indigent and for children who need these services in the school districts in the Los Angeles Area. These services are provided by the Lions Clubs to families who can not afford these exams. Staffed by Doctors and technicians who donate their time and services and by Lions Club members who serve their communities, the new Mobile Unit is set to provide this much needed help. This simple ceremony will crown the efforts of a dedicated group of Lions who since early 1999 have been raising funds to complete the task of replacing the old Eye Mobile Unit. Made possible by a grant of $75,000 from Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), the contributions from local Lions Clubs, and form the Estate of the late Hazel Thompson, the dream has become a reality. Mobile Health Screening Board president, Lion Oscar Bugarini, and the members of his dedicated Board will make the formal presentation to the Lions Eye Foundation of Southern California. -END- |
